Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is an austenitic titanium-stabilized stainless steel sheet that has a high level of corrosion resistance overall.
Type 321 is chromium-nickel stainless steel, and when the titanium is added, Type 321 is tolerant to intergranular corrosion. SS 321 plates are also resistant to intergranular corrosion when exposed to temperatures falling within the chromium precipitation range. The reason for this is because, unlike the other grades which are susceptible to intergranular corrosion, the hot-rolled plate of grade A240Tp 321 does not suffer from intergranular corrosion.

Titanium means that stainless steel is tolerant of post-heating (between 425-900degC). Longer-term exposures to 900-1500degF can reduce Type 321 Stainless Steels overall corrosion resistance, but the grade still shows improved intergranular corrosion resistance over non-stabilized grades. It is used mostly in applications that include both continuous and intermittent operation temperatures in the 800-1500degF carbide precipitation range.
This grade is readily soldered using all standard methods, and no annealing after welding is required. The alloy is resistant to oxidation up to 1,500AdegF (816AdegC) and has higher creep and stress-rupture properties compared with 304 and 304L alloys.
