The heat treatment process
Annealing for stress reliefHeated to 530~550ºC and hold 1~2 h. Cold down

Invar 36 can be welded by oxyacetylene welding, arc welding, electric welding and hydrogen atom welding. Since the coefficient of expansion is related to the chemical composition of the alloy, the alloy composition should be avoided as much as possible due to welding. Therefore, it is best to use argon arc welding. The filler metal for welding should preferably contain 0.5% to 1.5% of titanium to reduce welding pores and crack.

Applications of Invar Alloy

Invar, also known generically as FeNi36 (64Feni in the United States), is a nickel-iron alloy that is noted for its unique low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE, or A) of invar. Alloy 36 (Invar(r)*) is a 36% nickel-iron alloy which shows nearly zero rate of thermal expansion–about a tenth that of carbon steel–at temperatures ranging from about -100degC up to 200degC.
